Do I need a rental car in Vail?
For most visitors, no. Vail Village and Lionshead are pedestrian, the town bus is free and frequent, and ECO Transit connects the valley. A rental car means airport queues, mountain driving in conditions you may not know, and Vail parking — which is expensive and fills early on powder days. The common pattern is a private transfer in and out, and no car in between — the town bus, taxis and rideshare cover the rest. A car earns its keep if you are staying somewhere remote or planning day trips to other resorts.
